Stoke Space secures $1B to advance fully reusable rocket ambitions

Stoke Space Technologies has completed the initial closing of a $1 billion Series E round, bringing its total funding to $2.3 billion. The capital will support scaling production, increasing flight frequency, and developing a second-generation vehicle. The company aims to achieve full reusability of both booster and upper stage, with its first Nova Pathfinder flight targeted for early 2027.
The funding round, spearheaded by Point72 Ventures and Spark Capital, brings Stoke's cumulative capital to $2.3 billion. CEO Andy Lapsa indicated the fresh funds will primarily bolster manufacturing scale, increase launch cadence, and finance the next-generation Nova Block 2 vehicle.
Stoke's distinct engineering approach involves circulating cryogenic liquid hydrogen through the upper stage's exterior to manage reentry heat, a method they have extensively validated on the ground. The company has already secured commercial payload contracts for its initial Nova Pathfinder rocket, which aims for a 2027 debut carrying three metric tons to low-Earth orbit.
If Stoke successfully achieves full reusability, it could significantly lower the cost barrier for satellite deployment, potentially democratizing access to space for smaller nations and commercial entities. This may intensify competitive pressure on established providers like SpaceX, potentially driving down launch prices across the industry. However, the technical hurdles remain immense, and delays could postpone these economic benefits, meaning the broader societal impact hinges on successful execution rather than mere capital infusion.
