Underground Detector Records Unexplained Event That Could Hint at Dark Matter

A single anomalous collision in the LUX-ZEPLIN detector, buried in a South Dakota mine, has resisted all attempts to explain it as background noise. If the event stems from dark matter, the particle would be at least 200 times heavier than a proton. However, the signal has not yet reached the 5-sigma confidence level required for a formal discovery.
