Hong Kong's first space traveler to beam live lesson from orbit to local schools
Lai Ka-ying, the first astronaut from Hong Kong, will conduct a live space lecture for students at her alma mater and across the city. The session, part of the Tiangong Class, will also be broadcast to Macau and feature demonstrations and Q&A. The event is jointly organized by Hong Kong, Macau, and China's manned space agency.
The 90-minute session is scheduled for 9:50am at Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College, Lai Ka-ying's former school. She will be joined by Shenzhou-23 commander Zhu Yangzhu and fellow astronaut Zhang Zhiyuan. The event includes an expert talk, live orbital demonstrations, and a student Q&A segment.
The Education Bureau has urged all primary and secondary schools to tune into the broadcast. Beyond the physical attendees, including Macau delegates and local tech/youth representatives, the lecture will stream on government websites, social media, and local television channels.
This event could inspire Hong Kong students by showcasing a local role model in space, potentially boosting interest in STEM fields and innovation. The joint organization with Macau and mainland agencies may strengthen regional educational ties and foster a sense of shared national achievement.
