IBM Buys HRL Labs to Accelerate Quantum Computing Development
IBM has completed its acquisition of HRL Laboratories, a research firm specializing in quantum computing and materials. The acquisition unites HRL's silicon-spin qubit research with IBM's superconducting platforms. IBM's projected timeline features the Starling machine in 2029, capable of 100 million quantum operations, followed by the Blue Jay system in the mid-2030s.
For smaller enterprises, potential gains span logistics, finance, and healthcare through enhanced predictive modeling and supply-chain optimization.
