ARM Institute secures $90M to upgrade defense manufacturing with robotics
The ARM Institute received nearly $90 million for 10 projects under the Organic Industrial Base Modernization Challenge. The projects aim to solve automation challenges at 12 military manufacturing sites using robotics and AI. Each solution includes a workforce readiness component.
The funding stems from a Department of War initiative targeting modernization of the Organic Industrial Base—a network of arsenals, depots, and ammunition plants. Fifteen member organizations will collaborate across 12 sites, implementing solutions like AI-enhanced energetics safety and drone-assisted readiness within a two-year window.
Beyond hardware, the initiative integrates workforce development. The ARM Institute will lead efforts to pinpoint necessary skills, offering upskilling or recruitment pathways to ensure personnel can operate alongside the new robotic and physical AI systems.
