Taiwanese authorities have conducted 166 investigations and secured at least 36 convictions since 2020 targeting Chinese-owned businesses operating without required permits. These firms often use shell companies or local proxies to conceal their origins and recruit Taiwanese engineers for semiconductor research, offering salaries far above market rates.
