Frontier adjusts loyalty program: Diamond easier, basic fares less rewarding
Frontier Airlines has reduced the points needed for its top Elite Diamond status from 100,000 to 75,000, effective immediately. However, starting in 2027, qualification thresholds for Silver and Gold will rise, and basic fare passengers and those without the airline's credit card will earn fewer miles. The airline also introduced new perks for elite members, including complimentary upgrades for Silver and Gold tiers.
The airline's decision to slash Diamond qualification from 100,000 to 75,000 points makes its top tier markedly more attainable, while simultaneously raising the bar for Silver and Gold members beginning in 2027. Members reaching the 75,000-point mark during 2026 will hold Diamond status throughout the following year.
The revised structure creates sharper distinctions between passenger types. Basic fare travelers and those without the Frontier credit card will accrue miles at reduced rates, while cardholders earn bonus miles. Elite members gain upgrade windows ranging from four hours for Silver to 24 hours for Diamond, though Platinum members surrender unlimited companion travel in exchange for two certificates. Checked bag allowances rise from 40 to 50 pounds for Platinum and Diamond tiers.
This restructuring could influence how budget-conscious travelers evaluate Frontier against competing ultra-low-cost carriers. Frequent flyers previously discouraged by the 100,000-point Diamond threshold may now pursue top-tier status, potentially intensifying competition for limited upgrade seats.
