J.Crew Taps Emma Chamberlain to Showcase a Modernized Classic Sweater

J.Crew has enlisted Emma Chamberlain to front its fall campaign, introducing the Tiny Rollneck, a cropped and fitted version of the brand's 1988 cotton sweater. The campaign, shot by Ian Markell, features a retro-futuristic aesthetic inspired by early-2000s fashion and video game imagery. The sweater is available in bright colors and styled with collegiate-inspired pieces like pleated skirts and loafers.
The Tiny Rollneck traces its lineage to a heavyweight cotton knit that first appeared in J.Crew's 1988 catalog, distinguished by raglan sleeves and a loosely curled neckline. The new version shifts to a cropped, closer-fitting silhouette while retaining the original's 100 percent cotton construction, offered in six colorways ranging from vintage red stripe to navy faded lilac. Pricing starts at $98.
This fall launch follows two prior Rollneck initiatives: last year's "Next Rollneck Generation" campaign featuring actors and musicians, and a spring New York Fashion Week project where five designers reimagined the sweater through lace, colorblocking and unconventional knit techniques. Chamberlain's campaign, styled by Jared Ellner alongside creative director Olympia Gayot, pairs the sweater with collegiate staples like pleated skirts and argyle socks.
This collaboration could reinforce the ongoing revival of preppy, collegiate-inspired dressing among younger consumers, with Chamberlain's Gen Z credibility lending authenticity to a heritage brand seeking relevance. The campaign may also signal how legacy retailers increasingly rely on influencer partnerships to bridge generational gaps, potentially normalizing cropped knitwear as a fall staple. For Chamberlain, it further cements her crossover from digital creator to mainstream fashion figure, possibly influencing how other brands approach similar collaborations with social media personalities.
