Texas legislators press governor to halt border barriers in Big Bend

A bipartisan group of 44 Texas state lawmakers sent a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday, urging him to use all available means to stop the Department of Homeland Security from building barriers in Big Bend National Park. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott said the work involves only limited vehicle barriers, access roads, and detection technology, not a wall. The lawmakers argue the park's rugged terrain already provides natural security and prefer drones and radar over physical barriers.
